A 19th century 'smokers bow' or 'captains chair' Windsor chair with a rather unusual shaped back rest which sits on 7 short turned spindles. The 2 piece elm arm bow sits on 8 turned spindles which join to the single slab elm seat that has a characterful split on the front edge. The whole raised on 4 turned legs joined by stretchers and retaining much of its original marron paint which has taken on a rather attractive colour and dry crusty patina. The back of the seat stamped W.C.

A good honest chair in solid order with tight joints.
