A late Victorian sofa by the renowned cabinet maker and upholsterers Morison & Co of Edinburgh. Still in its original red velvet cover which has worn perfectly over the years.
The back looks to have at some point been replaced in a red silk like fabric which in itself is old. (Speaking to a fellow respected antique dealer, the backs are often not the expensive fabric which is used on the visible side as they would be up against a wall so the back is possibly original however i cannot confirm 100%)
It also has its original under lining with the stamp "Morison & Co upholders Edinburgh". The finely carved legs and arms are evidence of its quality and the serpentine fronted frame remains firm to this day. There are two small labels underneath that read "property of Mary E skellington"
Morison & Co were at the forefront of Scottish furniture making, they received and order to fit out the first class accommodation of the Mauretania. Examples of Morison & Co furniture grace the rooms of Lauriston castle in Edinburgh
